Custom Airport and Runway Signage

Airport signage is the system of signs that guides aircraft, ground vehicles, and people safely and efficiently around an airport, from the runways and taxiways of the airfield to the terminals and parking areas. NPI – Nameplates Inc. manufactures durable, high-visibility airport and runway signage, built from weather-resistant materials to stay legible in every condition.

Airport signage is a growing product line for us, and it draws on the same durable-materials and manufacturing expertise behind more than fifty years of industrial signs and product identification.

Custom Airport and Runway Signage

Why Is Airport Signage Important?

Airport signage is a matter of safety. On the airfield, signs direct pilots and ground crews along taxiways and runways, mark the places where aircraft must stop and hold, and help prevent the runway incursions that put people and aircraft at risk. Clear, correct signage also keeps ground traffic moving efficiently in one of the most demanding operating environments there is.

Because so much depends on it, airport signage has to perform without fail, day or night, through sun, rain, snow, and the wind and blast of active aircraft. That puts a premium on visibility and durability, which is exactly where material and manufacturing quality matter most.

What Do Airport and Runway Signs Tell You?

Airfield signs use a standard system of colors and symbols so their meaning is clear at a glance, following established standards for how they look and where they’re placed.

Mandatory instruction signs have a red background with white text, marking runway entrances and holding positions where an aircraft must stop. Location signs use a black background with yellow text to tell a pilot which taxiway or runway they’re currently on. Direction and destination signs use a yellow background with black text and arrows to point the way to taxiways, runways, and other destinations. Runway distance-remaining signs show white numbers on black to indicate how much runway is left.

Together, this signage tells everyone on the airfield exactly where they are, where they can go, and where they must stop.

Built for the Airfield Environment

Built for the Airfield Environment

Airfield signs live outdoors under constant stress, so durability and visibility are everything. We manufacture airport signage from weather- and UV-resistant materials with high-visibility, reflective finishes that keep signs legible in daylight and after dark. Built to stand up to sun, weather, and the demands of an active airfield, they’re made to keep doing their job season after season.

We fabricate signs to the shapes, sizes, and mounting each location calls for, matching the materials and finishes to the environment they’ll serve.
